Have an Ant Problem? No Problem!

We often face the problem where the tiny worker insects invade our homes. After they invade our homes we struggle to get rid of them. Luckily there is always an easy way to do anything.

Home remedies sometimes work the best. Ants are repelled by most acids and spices.

Try dousing vinegar in the crevices of your rooms where you know ants are prone to go. They can’t bear the strong and pungent smell of this acid. Also beware of the different materials you spray a vinegar mixture to. It might stain or bleach certain surfaces.

Lemon works in a similar way to vinegar. All you need to do is apply a lemon mixture to any thresholds or openings where you know the ants can enter. You can also leave the lemon peel in cupboards and corners.

Most spices repel ants that invade your home. Spices such as cinnamon and peppers can work well. The scents that get left behind are too strong and pungent for the ants that they will try to avoid the area completely. All you need to do is sprinkle the grounded spices in the drawers or in the crack right by the steps and at the corners before your doors.

Spices are not the only grounded repellent you can use. Coffee is also a relatively acidic home remedy that can be sprinkled in your garden. This is also a helpful solution to keep stray cats and rats away.

Cucumber peels or scents drive ants crazy. They avoid this water based vegetable wherever possible. You can leave the peel close to the doors and windows where the ants enter or you can have essential oils applied around your house.

There are also some alkaline substances you can use. Ants don’t like chalk, believe it or not. Neither do they like baking powder on its own and soapy products.

It’s also important to remember to keep your home clean especially around the sink. There could be some remnants of food on the plate you placed in the sink as well as a small body of water that the ants can get to. You can add a couple of drops of peppermint to the sink to keep the ants at bay.

If all else fails use bug repellent as a quick solution. Make sure that you spray directly where the ants have made their nests and close to the doors of your house. Insect repellent is easy to find in any cash and carry wholesale store.
